Why does MMA news get so little love on TV?

If you know where to look there is more MMA action (mostly on cable TV) than at any time in recent memory.  HDNet, Spike, Versus, Showtime, UFC ppv's and an occasional CBS telecast keep the action flowing.

No complaints there.

But why does there continue to be such little coverage of the sport from a news perspective?  UFC main events are barely mentioned on the never ending flagship, ESPN SportsCenter...and forget any bout less.

Inside MMA on HDNet is a great show but available only in a limited number of households.  ESPN's MMA Live is also quality programming but struggles for premium air time and remians mostly an internet show.

It seems as if the television powers that be see MMA as a fringe sport and are more than comfortable covering it as such.

I wonder why?

This is something I've often wondered. The UFC has proven what a grip they have on the valuable 18-34 male demographic, what does ESPN have against MMA? I was in downtown LA 2 weeks ago for UFC 116. Figured the ESPN Zone would be a sure fire bet to see it. Nope. Called them up and they said they "never" show UFC events. God knows why. Two blocks away the local bar was overflowing and going insane for every fight. Can't imagine how much money they made off of 50$ ppv purchase. Just doesn't add up to me

the reason is real simple that Dana White who controls UFC did not want to bend to other channels and stood up for his brand. originally ultimate fighter which was supposed to be on hbo went to spike, espn does cover it but the other channel do not show it because of what ma cain did when he was trying to ban it. I rather watch it then boxing
