UFC 116: Only the ref was more amazing than Lesnar and Carwin

                                       Referee Josh Rosenthal

UFC 116 certainly brought the pain.  It was a blue collar kind of night.

As a fighter, if you didn't bring your hard hat and a lunch pail you were in big trouble.  Everyone on the card punched the clock and came to fight.

As a fan, I say thank you!

I never thought in a million years that Brock would make it out of the first round.  I just knew that the ref, Josh Rosenthal, would stop the vicious ground-n-pound that Carwin was unleashing.  Lesnar turtled up and offered next to nothing in return.  I knew it was just a matter of time.

Rosenthal earned his stripes by instantly assessing the situation correctly and not being swayed by the enormous pressure of the octagon.  He watched Lesnar get tenderized without panicking.  Brock took a beating but was never unconscious.

Many will surely say that the fight should have been stopped since Brock wasn't answering or improving his position.  He couldn't.  That was a huge man holding him down.

I'm impressed with the performance of both athletes but I'm amazed by the performance of the ref!

Much respect Josh Rosenthal!
