Nationally televised brawl on CBS a bad day for MMA

A lot of people have worked long and hard to promote MMA and help establish the sport as a major player like MLB, NFL & NBA.

MMA has some of the most talented and well conditioned athletes in all of sports.

The UFC has become a global brand; in many ways just as popular as any of the above 'Big 3'.

State and Provincial governing bodies are actively legalizing MMA despite a few very vocal critics.

And the sport is currently enjoying more media exposure than it ever has.

So my heart sank as I watched the melee erupt and play out live on the Strikeforce card on CBS.  Finally, major network TV took a chance and provided the resources and platform for MMA to be broadcast free to the masses and this is what happens.

A word to the wise- asinine behavior plays much better on cable than network TV.

Now the entire sport awaits the backlash.

One word: AMATEURS. Sometimes I wonder what on earth Scott Coker is thinking. I doubt Dana White (or his team) would have allowed this to happen. In fact, after Brock Lesnar embarrassed himself upon beating Frank Mir, White gave him such a dressing-down that Lesnar immediately followed up in interviews acting like his gonads were in a jar of formaldehyde on White's desk and sounding so contrite that you'd think a nun was standing behind him with a ruler at the ready to rap his knuckles if he misbehaved again.

That said, I'm a huge Strikeforce fan and I feel as strongly as you about MMA's potential for greatness. I agree wholeheartedly with your thoughts on the matter, Doctor.
