UFC 112 Disappoints
UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi looked amazing on paper and the location was exciting but the headliners Anderson Silva and BJ Penn put in equally sub-par performances.
I watched BJ's ring walk and something just didn't look quite right about him. He seemed dazed and oddly absent...and that's exactly the manner in which he performed in the octagon, dazed and absent.
No disrespect to Frankie Edgar but he didn't do anything spectacular. He merely kept his distance and inflicted no serious damage. It was one of the most boring and uninspired performances that I have seen in a championship fight in a long time. I guess everyone can have an off night...even the prodigy.
Anderson Silva disgraced himself. It is hard for me to type those words since I am such a fan but I have little choice after that debacle last night. He is no longer the best fighter in the world. The best fighter in the world would have engaged and dominated and most likely finished.
The best fighter in the world is GSP. Fedor is in that discussion somewhere but he so rarely fights it is hard to include him in serious discussion.
Once Anderson Silva redeems himself, a non-title catch weight fight with GSP at 178 lbs. would be the stuff of legend.
