Ohio SAC's Bernie Profato not afraid to lead
I wrote an article on my favorite web site mmajunkie.com that praised State Athletic Commissions (SAC) that consistently do a great job promoting fighter safety. Most people seemed to hate it. When a SAC like California does a terrible job everyone and I do mean everyone will overload the server to spew venom and pile on.
I guess it's just human nature. People love a good wreck.
Fortunately, I don't mind giving someone a well earned pat on the back and this one goes to the head of the Ohio SAC, Mr. Bernie Profato. Bernie is trialing a new cruiserweight division 206-225 lbs.
He is concerned with the safety of the current 60 lb. range in the heavy weight division. It is not unheard of for the monsters of the division, like a Brock Lesnar, to make the 265 lb. weight limit and then enter the octagon at 280 lbs. or more! Just for one moment imagine being that smallish 220 lb. heavy weight staring across the mat at him...both scary and potentially very dangerous.
Mr. Profato's trial may also address the smaller heavy weights who attempt to cut to the 205 lb. light heavy weight limit. It creates a more natural weight for them to compete without resorting to dangerous methods to be competitive.
Will it work? I don't know. Is it worth a try? Absolutely!!
Much respect Mr. Profato...keep showing them the way!!
