Fighter bashing and anti-social rants detracting from MMA

I certainly don't consider myself a prude and to my great personal shame I can cuss with the best of them.  But where has common civility gone?  What happened to disagreement without name calling and being an ass?

The internet has without a doubt changed the modern world.  It has leveled the playing field and allowed virtually anyone and everyone to offer their opinion to a truly global audience.

Conceptually, this is a beautiful application of the power of the internet but in reality in many situations the beauty quickly fades.

The anonymity and general lack of oversight allows a very vocal minority to become hate mongers of the most vile form.  Inclined individuals apparently troll legitimate internet forums and chat rooms prospecting for a chance to let their vitriol fly.  They stay for a moment and once their havoc is wrought they then move on to the next unsuspecting site.

And lest we not forget the 'keyboard kowboys' that hide behind their testosterone laden screen names.  These 'warriors' type things that they would never, ever say face to face.  Without a doubt, their typing skills are clearly superior to their fighting skills.

Apparently they find this behavior entertaining.

The on-line MMA world has become replete with such individuals. Not to mention, rabid fans that take any question about their favorite fighter as a personal affront and lash out in some misguided attempt to preserve their fighter's honor and dignity.

Merely mention any of a few hot button fighters and the venom immediately spews.

Think: Brock Lesnar, Rampage Jackson, Tito Ortiz, Cris Cyborg etc... I know there is someone out there feeling hot and sweaty just trying to reply.

Even for the most die hard MMA fan, I wonder if they sincerely believe that this type of behavior truly helps the sport to grow? Can they not understand that their lack of common courtesy is being used to limit the general acceptance of MMA to a much larger audience?

I agree with you, I have surfed the web today after hearing about the death of a fighter in S. Carolina and was appalled at some of the things these so called mma fans were posting. They are terrible ambassadors to the sport and it hurts the rest of us when they create that kind of image. I guess these folks don't realize that you can be aggressive, tough, and even hardcore with out acting like a bottom feeding deviant.
