Shouldn't judge a book by its cover...UFC 108 delivered

UFC 108 proved once again that you should always listen to your mother.

The blogosphere crushed UFC 108 as lackluster and lacking sufficient star appeal.  But once again the UFC displayed why having a very deep talent pool and the inherent appeal of MMA can make up for perceived deficiencies.

UFC 108 proved that a fighter doesn't have to be the biggest name to supply devastating KO's, a slick ground game, submission's that almost defy description and most of all heart.  That's the inherent beauty of MMA.

With a talent pool more accurately described as an ocean, one fighter's loss is another fighter's gain.  One fighter falls off the card due to injury or sickness and another fighter steps up.  What may appear to be a disappointment on paper often turns out to be a lesser known fighter's coming out party.

Never underestimate a hungry up and coming fighter that you may have heard little about.

Whatever you may think of Dana White and some of the business practices of the UFC, that organization is loaded, I mean loaded with talent.

UFC 108 ‘delivered’ in more ways than the obvious mma talent from this fight card.

Your previous articles regarding the need for more ethnic diversity among UFC Ring Girls appears to have been heeded in UFC 108. I guess this serves to extend your point that “you should always listen to your mother”, in that perhaps the knowledgeable ‘Sports Doctor’ just might possess some meaningful social wisdom worth listening to beyond mere medical advice. Now, I’m pretty sure your modesty will not permit you to entertain the thought that your articles made any difference, but my belief is that everyone evokes small social changes on a daily basis and its always nice when people can feel a part of that success.

So, cheers to you Dr. Benjamin and the UFC… as well as your entire readership in the New Year.
