On skills alone...Should Tito Ortiz or Forrest Griffin be fighting in the UFC?

I know that the title will evoke an emotional response...that's ok.

I know that Tito is on the come back trail after a long injury induced lay off and Forrest is just on the trail...but can you honestly see either one of these men ever seriously contending for the top of the heap again?

Seriously?

Sure they are both fan favorites.  People love Forrest for his personality and people love to hate Tito for his personality.  That stuff sells tickets and ppv's.  Believe me.  I get it.

But none of that speaks to skill set.

It appears that both of these men are past their primes and their best days are rapidly diminishing in their rear view mirrors.  So I offer that both of these fighters are on the UFC roster not for what they are likely to accomplish going forward but more accurately for what they've done in the past.

The UFC is a classic 5-act tragedy.

Up and comer grows to challenger becomes brief champion with even shorter stint of I'll be back to reclaim my belt followed by a slow and predictable decline to will his contract be renewed.

MMA at the highest level is a career with a short half-life and long exit.

I agree. Lets face it. Was Forrest really the top Contender when he beat Quinton, and it was a questionable win anyway.

Tito is just not the same fighter. I believe his heart is not in the game and neither guys will ever be that " Good " again. But I still believe that they will conitinue to fight medium tier fighters and fill a card. Lets call them " Gatekeepers "

I agree on the Tito aspect.

      As for Forest...

This guy submitted Shogun and beat rampage. He may not be the most explosive or dynamic fighter, but he has earned his dues and respect in my mind.
