Tiger Woods has a minor car accident and it's national news...sad.

Tiger Woods storms out of his house in the middle of the night, runs over a fire hydrant and crashes his truck into a tree.

So what?

That shouldn't be national news.  That's between his wife, the fire hydrant, the tree and El Tigre.

Unfortunately, our society can no longer distinguish between news and gossip.  News is an occurrence that has the potential for meaningful impact on the lives of many people.  Things that happen between celebrities and inanimate objects are by definition gossip.

National news media should stick to real news and leave the 'he said she said' and 'guess what happened to so and so' to the professionals.

I agree that this story shouldn't be national news and definitely shouldn't be leading off CNN news. However, you can't be that surprised, this is the same culture that consistently puts American Idol and Dancing with the Stars at the top of the ratings. When you are as famous as Tiger, it is to be expected that the public will want to know all of your personal details. I just hope that the rumors of infidelity are not true. Outside of his infamous temper on the course, Tiger's rep has been golden. He took a page right out of the Michael Jordan handbook on how to keep a good public persona and make a lot of money from it. A lot of kids look up to Tiger, including his own, so let's hope none of it is true. When you are that huge, you have to double your caution and ensure you do NOTHING that can come back on you. So while I agree with you that it shouldn't be national news, I also say to you: what did you expect?

I am so grateful that God is not like man or no one would ever be forgiving for anything. What I'm curious to know is why was Tiger's wife allowed to beat the crap out of him and not go to jail. Had the situation been reversed Tiger would have gone to jail immediately. With that being said, if he was my husband I probably would have tried to knock his head off too. A person's personal life is just that and should'nt be scrutinize by the world. Each of us should be our own children mentor and we wouldn't have to be concerned with someone not meeting our expectations or morals. The world is just so unforgiving. Tiger plays professional golf, he is not a priest. Abilities will take a man to the top, but it takes character to keep him there. A marriage may be made in heaven, but the maintenance must be done on earth. "Nevertheless, let everyone of us in particular so love his wife even as himself: and the wife see that she reverence her husband." Ephesians 5:33
