Warner and Roethlisberger can't have it both ways

I've often commented that athletes commonly must be protected from themselves and their incredible desire to compete.  Invariably someone will go on a rant about 'who am I to tell an athlete what to do.  They are adults and if they want to injure or maim themselves, who am I to say anything'?

And you thought my job was all beautiful women and fast cars...for shame.

Kurt Warner's Cardinals are an unbelieveable 7-3 and in the play off hunt.  While the Big Ben and the Steelers sit at an inconsistent 6-4 and fighting for their post-season lives.  And on cue they both say that they will play this weekend in tough divisional games despite being just a few day removed from a concussion, one of a few for each player.

Their teams need a win and without them the chances for that outcome diminish significantly.  Believe me.  I get it.

They are both well aware of the risks (as we understand them today) and are adults.

But should the NFL or an insurance policy be held financially or morally responsible or liable for their issues related to brain injury and mental health in the future?

If they roll the concussion dice and it comes up snake-eyes for them now or in the future,  they're grown men.  They knew, right?
