What does it mean when a person's body goes rigid after a KO or concussion?

I love questions from readers...it is the best part of this entire experience.  Here's one from Jonas in Stockholm, Sweden:

"He immediately appeared to lose consciousness and his entire body became rigid…not a good sign medically."-quote from my blog entry on Cal's Jahvid Best on 11.10.09

What does the rigidity signify? You see it pretty often in the UFC, the latest case standing out must be Bisping vs Hendo.

Thank you for a great blog!

Wow, a reader from Stockholm!  I'm honored, Sir.

The rigidity that you see after some KO's and other concussions are called 'posturing' in medical jargon.  It usually occurs in seizures, severely brain injured and brain dead people.

It is a sign that basically says the brain is no longer in control of the body...obviously not a good thing.

Be well my friend and I love the questions!!
