Injury Report: Blake Griffin, Leon Washington, Brian Westbrook etc...
Injuries are part of the game but as the seasons continue and the wear and tear begins to accumulate injuries begin to mount.
Then there is the jinxed Los Angeles Clippers. The NBA #1 Draft pick, Blake Griffin, heads to the perennial under achiever in the league, The LA Clippers. That's one of the benefits of being the worst team in the league; you get first dibs.
Griffin is the all-everything player that LA's other team was praying could be the chosen one to lead the woeful Clippers to the promise land of respectability...you didn't think that I was going to say a championship...did you?
He is a terrific young player but no one will see him on a court near you until he heals a stress fracture in his patella (knee cap). That injury will require at least 6 weeks to heal and then rehab to get back into shape. The Clippers seem cursed.
Leon Washington, the dynamic multi-tasker for the NY Jets suffered an ugly open fibula fracture over the weekend. The small bone on the outside of the leg broke and punctured through the skin.
This injury heals well but must be treated with care so as not to get infected. Dirt, grass and an open fracture don't mix well. But with the proper care this injury should not be career threatening. Too bad he's in a contract year. He's going to get jerked.
Brian Westbrook of the Eagles took an awkward knee to the back of the head and spent several scary minutes lying motionless on the field. It turned out to be a concussion which is a serious matter but it initially looked as if it could have been much worse...whew!
Chris Cooley the very popular free spirit and excellent tight end for the Redskins went down in the MNF game with an ankle fracture. Unfortunately, that's his season.
