Kimbo Slice: The power of marketing and a gullible public

Kimbo, Kimbo, Kimbo.

Whew...Where do I start?

I, unlike a growing legion to the contrary, am not a Kimbo Slice hater.  But what I do hate is the hype-machine that continues to make this type of occurrence possible.

Self-proclaimed experts, pundits and talking heads combined with slick promotion can convince Americans of damn near anything...like we don't need health care reform and a public option.  But hey that's a whole other topic!

Kevin Ferguson has never said that he was very good at MMA.  He didn't need to because everyone that has handled his career was more than willing to do it for him.

And the public believed every word of it..for shame.

He had never fought MMA before but the Shaw's convinced us that he was the truth...and we believed.  When Seth Petruzzuli (who's that?) stretched him out with a soft jab we apparently didn't learn a thing.

Now, the Ultimate Fighter show on Spike had America tuning into to see Mr. Slice fight Roy 'Big Country" Nelson (I've got 3 words for dude...Nutra-system for Men)...  And by looking at the overnight ratings you watched.

Fool me once shame on you.  Fool me twice...
