NBA Miami Heat's Michael Beasley: Falling
Michael Beasley is a 6' 9" NBA forward for the Miami Heat.
He is an immature 20 y.o. kid with a $4.6 million contract, way too much free time and far too little guidance. Not that I believe that he would accept it, if it were offered.
Instead of training for the upcoming NBA season, he is checked into a drug rehab facility in Houston, Texas.
I am not bashing this young man. I apologize if it sounds like I am.
Even the most casual observer could see that he may very likely struggle with the transition from Kansas State to South Beach. He announced to the world that he was 'just an immature kid and everyone will just have to accept it' (paraphrased).
Mr. Beasley, then immediately got into trouble over the summer at the NBA Rookie Transition camp. He had yet to play his first real NBA game.
He made it fairly common knowledge that he was not averse to smoking the almighty herb (marijuana) and things continued to spiral downward. Now he finds himself in rehab.
Who goes to rehab for only marijuana smoking? The answer is...No one.
The issues with Michael Beasley appear to go much further than his love of ganja.
Who will step up and truly mentor Michael Beasley and the ever growing list of newly minted millionaire professional athletes before and after they find their way into trouble? The answer is...No one.
But a lot of 'friends and family' will help them spend their money.
