Cyborg Santos destroys Gina Carano....told you so
Cris Cyborg Santos owned the face of womens MMA (WMMA), Gina Carano. It was really no contest. It was an action packed 5 minutes but the outcome was never really in doubt.
Some people will attempt to create controversy by saying that the ref was inept with a premature stoppage in the last second of the 1st round.
To that I have 3 comments:
1. Josh Rosethal is an experienced ref and is not supposed to consider the time remaining when officiating a fight. The ref is required to enforce the rules and monitor fighter safety. He did both.
2. Gina while turtled up received 15 unanswered blows before the stoppage.
3. You may be complaining but Gina certainly didn't and she's the one that caught the ass whooping.
Gina looked quite winded and with the volume of punches that Cyborg threw I do not believe that she could have kept up a respectable pace for 4 more five minute rounds.
I asked before and I'll ask again...where does WMMA go from here?
My fear is that with the devastating loss of it's most marketable 'face' WMMA will lose its momentum, direction and ultimately the interest of the fans. That would surely be a sad day. There are many young fighters out there working theirs butts off in the gym, who may continue to toil in obscurity without the respect that they deserve.
