Still think MMA is more dangerous than boxing? Don't tell that to the family of Benjamin Flores
Many people, especially detractors from the sport, emphatically state that MMA is far more dangerous than professional boxing. They cite the smaller gloves, elbows, kicks and ground fighting as proof. Proof of what?
MMA evolved to answer the age old martial arts question- which style is superior? But opponents of MMA have misconstrued this concept and perverted it to mean I can beat my opponent to death.
Unfortunately, combat sports recently lost another brave, young soul in the ring. 25 year old professional boxer, Benjamin Flores (Houston Tx.), died just 5 days after a TKO loss. Never heard of Benjamin Flores? Doesn't matter. He was still a precious and valuable young person, whom will be missed by his loved ones.
Flores (19-4 6 KO) was stopped in the 8th round while battling in Dallas, Tx. for the NABF super bantamweight title. He was taken unconscious from the ring to the world renowned UT-Parkland Memorial Hospital trauma center.
This young man lost his life attempting to literally fight his way out of poverty.
A single event proves nothing. But many people continue to believe that MMA is more dangerous than professional boxing. Tell that to the family of the late Benjamin Flores.
May God rest his soul.

Glad you didn't allow this tragedy to go unnoticed. Ring deaths while not that frequent seem to happen every 1-2 years. Mean while MMA has had only 1 death that I can think of. Granted even that one death is too many, seems like boxing would do well to look at how MMA is run and carry over some of their rules. Especially the one about stopping the fight the very instant the other fighter is no longer able to intelligently defend themself.
