NFL owners attempting to address player safety

Apparently the NFL Owners' meeting is more than just sun and fun.  The owners are attempting to protect their most valuable resource, the players.

5 rules changes or modifications are going into effect:

1.  Outlaw the 3-player 'wedge' on kick-offs.
2.  Stop the bunching of players during on-side kick attempts.
3.  Hines Ward Rule- protect blockers from blind-side hits to the helmet.
4.  Protect defenseless receivers from blows to the helmet
5.  Tom Brady Rule- players on the ground can no longer lunge at the QB.

Thankfully, the owners are trying to further protect their significant investments; without healthy players their return on investment suffers.

They also discussed placing greater emphasis on holding calls and eradicating dangerous 'horse collar' tackles (which actually doubled last season).

The owners need to get serious and emphasize their often ignored policy on concussion management.  For every single Tom Brady-esque knee injury, tens if not hundreds of players are suffering concussions and awaiting the long-term health consequences.
