Alex Rodriguez's bum hip: labral tear...what's that?

A-Rod can't seem to catch a break...first the steroid controversy now this. Alex has been diagnosed with a cyst and a labral tear in his hip.
By all reports, A-Rod had the cyst aspirated (drained) with a needle today; in hopes it may relieve the soreness and stiffness that he has been experiencing in his hip for sometime. Don't forget, that last season he was out (on the DL) with a quad injury which just may have been the beginning of this sequence of events.
Rodriguez's choice of surgeons may reveal further information.
A-Rod did not go see the guru, Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama. Rather he chose Dr. Mark Phillipon. Why? Mark is considered by many to be the foremost specialist in hip arthroscopy.
The labrum is a cartilaginous ring that deepens the hip socket and makes it more stable. Injury to the labrum usually causes mechanical symptoms like clicking, snapping, catching, stiffness and pain.
If aspiration of the cyst and significant rest do not heal the labrum and relieve the symptoms, Alex obviously must be seeking an arthroscopic option. If one is available.
With the first regular season game on April 16th (in the new Yankee Stadium) just about 6 weeks away; A-rod will certainly be a no-show. Alex Rodriguez may be lucky to play in the new 'house' before the MLB All Star game on July 16th.
Not exactly the news that Yankee nation was hoping for.
