WEC 39 Marcos Galvao's KO...now will you take KO's a bit more seriously?
Early testing shows encouraging results for the WEC's Marcos Galvao. He suffered a devastating 18 second KO in his contest against Damacio Page, Sunday night at WEC 39.
The KO apparently (thankfully not aired on live TV) left Marcos seizing on the canvas. Reports reveal that a post-fight CT scan, neuro exam and a follow-up MRI the next day have all come back clean.
Significant head trauma combined with weight cutting regimens commonly employed in combat sports increase the likelihood for post-concussive seizures.
Thankfully, these early tests apparently show no significant structural abnormalities but this episode will continue to be an issue for the remainder of his career and possibly his life. These events will mandate greater evaluation (pre-fight medical clearance) if and when he desires to compete again.
I pray that this young man will make a full and speedy recovery and have no short or long term difficulties.
