MMA's grand opportunity
With the NCAA football champion crowned and the Steelers' sixth Lombardy Trophy in hand, what do fans that love contact have to look forward to until late summer?
Sure, we have a couple of weeks of March Madness to get excited about. But the last time I checked there is very little contact at the 3-point line.
Yeah, people watch the baseball but baseball is so slow that baseball mostly watches you. Any live sporting event that needs a 7th inning stretch because your butt is getting numb...doesn't quite do it for me.
It's called the 'dead of winter' followed by the 'dog days of summer' for a reason...there's nothing to watch!!
This is the time of year that MMA promotions need to go into overdrive.
Apparently 98 million people watched the Superbowl.
***Newsflash*** Americans love contact sports!!!
So give it to us. What is there for a bored, red blooded, contact sports fan to watch on a Friday or Saturday night? Nothing...all weekend long!
Maybe with the new CBS/Showtime and Strikeforce/elite xc deal, network TV will finally bring consistent, high quality MMA to the hungry masses.
Hmm...
(live contact sport + competitive match making + high quality production) - little to no competition for viewers = high ratings
And guess what...free is a price that we all can afford (even in this miserable economy).
