Tony Dungy: In the presence of Greatness

In my life, I've met many interesting people from all walks of life. I find something interesting in almost everyone. I find something exceptional, something truly remarkable in very few.
Fame and celebrity do pitifully little to impress me. Believe me, there are a lot of famous people that did not become famous for their values or socially redeeming qualities.
On rare occasion, I have been blessed to be in the presence of true greatness. I sensed it immediately. A person that is just made of better stuff than others. No flash...just all substance.
They have greater character. They possess greater integrity. And their faith is palpably strong. A person that truly leads by example. Their words and their deeds are consistent. They truly walk the walk.
A human being that everyone can learn from. A person that makes the world a better place by the manner in which they live their life.
Tony Dungy is one of those truly special human beings.
I have been blessed to meet and speak with him very briefly on two occasions.
He will never remember me. And I will never forget him.
May God continue to bless Tony Dungy and his family.

It's good that you commented on it. Usually good people get trampled on, taken advantage of, and never make it far. Dungy proved otherwise. I just hope the fact that he is religious is not the only reason why people hold him so high.

I can't give Dungy a free pass, everyone goes on about how full of integrity he is and how he has so much love for everyone... tell that to the gay people who feel aggrieved by Dungy's monetary support for an anti gay movement. I think people should be judged on who they are, not what their sexual orientation is, jusy because some book called 'the Bilbe' (that is supposed to be 'fact', yet has been re-written countless times) tells us to. I'm sorry but that is not a "great" person at all.
