NY Giants' Plaxico Burress and Indy Colts' Marvin Harrison demonstrate why hand guns and pro athletes are part of a toxic mix

Damn, Plax!! Shot yourself in the thigh?!?  Glad it wasn't worse.  (May God bless the soul of Miami's son and Washington Redskins' #21 Sean Taylor.  Who was not so fortunate when he was shot in the thigh.)  My man, you're having a rough year.  Do you think it may be time for a bit of introspection?...before you are permanently labeled as a 'problem child' or worse.  Though it may be a tad too late for that.

And the quiet one, Marvin Harrison found out just how much brotherly love his hometown of Philadelphia had for him last summer.  Just something about North Philly bars, hand guns and pro athletes doesn't go together well.

Are pro athletes commonly targeted for violence?  YES. Just ask the NBA's Eddie Curry, Antoine Walker, Paul Pierce and Stephen Jackson just to name a few.  And the NFL has so many acts of violence perpetrated against it's players I would get carpal tunnel just trying to list them.

Should pro athletes arm themselves for protection?  They need to do something but arming themselves with hand guns has not seemed to work.  The problem is much more complex than that.

The combination of too many very late nights partying, alcohol, too much bling (be it excessive jewelry and/or flashy cars), scandalous women, flossing (showing heaps of cash) and the ever present HATERS has turned increasingly dangerous.

Pro athletes possessing hand guns is just a small but potentially lethal piece of the puzzle.

NEWSFLASH-- the economy is horrible and the streets gotta eat.  So it's gonna get worse.
